The House

The family de Ginestous have owned Domaine St. Roch for over 300 years. St. Roch, the house, is at the heart of the vineyard and is surrounded by 200 acres of stunning scenery. It is a traditional Audios Farmhouse with large well-proportioned rooms throughout.

Downstairs, the adjoining kitchen and salon provide convivial open plan living. In the kitchen is a long refectory table for preparing and enjoying food with traditional French furniture positioned around a large stone hearth fireplace, perfect for relaxing after dinner for a game of écarte.  The house is cool and still, a welcome respite from the incredible heat in the summer.  Stone floors throughout are a hallmark of the traditional architecture of St. Roch and keep the house comfortably cool in the summer months, when the temperature regularly reaches 35c degrees.

All the bedrooms are ensuite and good sizes, with plenty of room to relax as well as sleep and plenty of space for a child’s cot. Overall the house is comfortable, relaxed and informal, with a number of family antiques that complement the age and style of this French home. From the salon there are French doors leading outside to a south facing gravel terrace, bordered by mature deciduous trees and a laurel hedge, perfect for a game of pétanque while enjoying a pre-dinner apero.

To the west is the pool courtyard and terrace for sun-lounging, barbecuing and swimming. The house is set back against a small hillside and from the kitchen is another more private terrace, which leads off into the countryside up some impressive stone steps. From there is an endless number of walks to follow, leading off to the west with incredible views of the vineyards, the endless scenery and the mighty Pyrenees.

We believe you will find the estate a very relaxing place in which to unwind. You’ll find nothing is over the top, not too bijou or fussy. Just a home away from home where life carries on around you, the workings of the vineyard and all that involves.

On arrival at St. Roch, expect to be met by the tranquil warmth of the French countryside, the sound of the cicadas and the fragrant scent of wild thyme (the garrigue).   This is a peaceful house with large well-appointed rooms to share time with friends or slope off for a siesta.

Holiday rentals

The house comfortably sleeps 10 and has a relaxed feel with large hearth fireplaces at the heart of the adjoining family kitchen and salon. There is a private swimming pool with an enclosed terrace. The kitchen is well equipped with oven, hob, fridge freezer, dishwasher, micro, and everything else required to produce substantial family feasts.  All the bedrooms are ensuite with either a bath or a shower (or both) and the bedrooms are furnished with an array of traditional farmhouse antiques. The house is pet-friendly and arrangements can be made for parties wishing to bring horses (or those who wish to ride locally). Chickens roam freely and as such the eggs are delicious, just ask Eugenie.  In season, there are fruit trees that bear cherries, peaches, figs, plums and of course grapes.  An evening walk back along the southern track is a perfect time to collect fruit for the morning’s breakfast table. And then of course, help yourself to grapes… they are juicy!  And if you’re after a little taster of the estate wines, Leo is always on hand to open the cave so you can try and perhaps even buy – very reasonable are the prices when bought direct from the chateau! The Domaine is available for rent all year round, from a long weekend to a whole season (check our bookings page for availability); perfect for a family vacation, but equally great for family lodgings for those at the start of a lifestyle change, before taking the plunge themselves to buy.  So why not come and spend a six month sabbatical and start your life here while you uncover your perfect domaine.
